So you’ve decided to take control of your life and start your virtual assistant business…now what? What services do you offer? What are you good at? What can you actually offer to others that you do well? You know in the back of your mind that life is more than your 9-5 … this “job” you once looked forward to has now become something you dread …you know that you’re making the right choice by starting your virtual assistant journey but you still feel a little lost in the dark and find it hard to define your passion in the VA world.
You actually do have more skills than you probably realize and you will soon be on your way to narrowing down your passion and purpose and honing in on your niche. The saying goes, “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life!” Let’s take a dive together to figure our how to find your purpose and passion in the VA world…
Where the problem starts
Very few people want to work just to work…most people want to find their passion and run after it with all they have! However, when you mix that with this pressing pressure of “running out of time” you have a disaster waiting to happen! More often than not, people settle in fear of never figuring out what they truly love to do. But let me just tell you one thing, running a VA business not only allows but always encourages you to try new things and branch out. You are never limited to one task or one skill. If you feel as though you want to try all the things, as a VA you have the freedom to do so!
Where you begin…
When you begin trying to find the passion as a VA, it’s best to focus on one or two skills that you are great at! Think about what skills you currently do at your 9-5 and how they can be transferable into the online world. It may not be exactly what you want to do long term but it’s a starting block. It will be a pathway to getting closer to finding your passion as a VA.
As you build clientele and start your journey carve out some time for yourself. Sit down and really find your why. Don’t rush this process! Allow yourself the time you need to understand your why on a deeper level…you’ll thank yourself in the long run! When you understand why you are doing this on a deeper level you are building a solid foundation. You are training for good times and bad. When the going gets tough, you will have a solid foundation to stand on.
Finding the freedom…
As a virtual assistant you have the ability to try new things with NO pressure. Does copywriting sound interesting? Try it! Do you want to manage facebook groups? Try it! You want to become a pinterest manager? Try it! Sooner or later you will learn what you love to do. You will also learn what you hate! This will ultimately help you narrow down and figure out exactly what you want to do. Another plus, as you begin reaching out and expanding your network you will start to find your groove. You will find yourself slowly finding your passion as you wind along your path.
One of the greatest things about running a virtual business is the constant opportunity for growth within your own timing. You are the one who decides to pursue growth compared to reporting to management. With that being said, the flexibility to allow yourself to grow and change over time is quite beautiful. Some things that you are passionate about pursuing at this time in your life may be different from what you find yourself interested in 5 years from down the road. Now, don’t let yourself sit still and stay stagnant…go hard after your dreams! You won’t regret it!
